You start in the legendary Jericoacoara, one of the most reliable wind destinations on the planet, then move on to the remote, laid-back beach break at Maceió for a completely different, chilled-out flavour of the same coastline. Two spots, two moods, one unforgettable trip.

And it's all taken care of. Every transfer is included — from Jericoacoara Airport in, the leg between Jeri and Maceió, and back out to the airport at the end — so all you have to think about is the wind. Just turn up and ride.

Days 1–5

Jericoacoara

Your adventure begins with a 45-minute transfer from Jericoacoara Airport to the buzzing little sand-street town of Jeri, where you'll spend your first five days smashing the waves at one of the world's most famous windsurfing spots, riding high-end, well-maintained gear in some of the most dependable wind you'll find anywhere.

The wind here is without a doubt some of the most reliable in the world, especially the last half of the year, when the wind continuously blows like crazy. So if you like strong wind this is worth considering. What was once a small fishing village is now a bustling lively place with many posadas, small bars and restaurants. During high season this location can get very busy so it is not for everyone. In recent years there has been a hand full of very good accommodations catering for a more discerning client.

So if you are looking for a destination to provide non-stop sailing and a lively atmosphere Jericoacoara is perfect for you!

Days 5–10

Camocim and Maceio

From there, a 90-minute transfer takes you south to Maceió Beach — a remote, wonderfully chilled stretch of coast and one of the few truly great windsurf spots in Brazil. Here you'll rack up more time on the water in a far quieter, off-the-beaten-track setting, with the local centre working around the tide: flatter, glassy water on the lower tide and small, playful waves rolling in as it pushes back up, so there's something on offer whatever the conditions.

Finally, when you've had your fill, a two-hour transfer takes you back to Jericoacoara Airport for your onward flight — tired, salty and already planning the next one.

About Camocim and Maceio +

Maceió Beach (Praia do Maceió) is a small fishing village on the coast of Ceará, in Brazil's north-east — not to be confused with the city of Maceió, which is the capital of Alagoas, much further south. This guide is about the windsurf spot in Ceará, near the town of Camocim. Maceió is one of the few genuinely great windsurfing spots in Brazil. What sets it apart isn't just the wind — it's the fact that there's a great windsurf centre right on the beach, with modern, well-maintained equipment available to hire. At Maceió, you can turn up without your own gear and still get a full week of quality sailing.

The village itself is small — a scattering of fishermen's houses among the palms and dunes, with the beach as the obvious centre of everything. There's no real nightlife here, and that's rather the point: people come to Maceió to sail, not to party.

Maceió suits intermediate to advanced windsurfers best. The water changes character with the tide — at lower tide you get flatter water and easier conditions, while as the tide comes in, small waves start to build. It's not a heavy wave spot, so it's forgiving rather than intimidating, but you do want some experience under your belt to make the most of it.

The wind is at its most reliable from July through to the end of November, and this is the window we'd recommend building a trip around. You can push a little earlier or later in the year and still find good sailing, but these five months are consistently the best bet if wind reliability matters to you.

Good-quality accommodation directly on the beach at Maceió is limited. As with every location we offer, we've visited every property here ourselves, and we work with the best of what's genuinely available — but most of it is aimed squarely at windsurfers on a dedicated sport holiday, rather than travellers wanting a high standard of property for a non-sailing partner.

If having a higher standard of accommodation matters to you, there is a good option around 15 minutes away by taxi — a well-appointed beach property we also work with, though it isn't right on the windsurf beach itself. It's a genuine trade-off between location and property standard, and which way you go depends on what matters most for your trip.
