Overview

Shaped by the steady winds of Icaraizinho and the vibrant energy of the sea, Icarai Watersports Centre offers a true gateway to some of the best water sports experiences in Icaraí de Amontada. Founded by João Henrique “Janjão” — a former professional windsurfer (2007–2014), as well as a photographer and filmmaker — the centre was born from a deep passion for the ocean and a desire to share it through safe, authentic and memorable experiences.

Following the opening of Casa Janjão in 2016, a charming guesthouse complete with bar and restaurant, Icarai Watersports Centre was established in 2019 as a natural extension of this vision. Today, it serves as a relaxed and welcoming meeting point where watersports, nature and local culture come together.

More than just a sports centre, Icarai Watersports Centre invites guests to experience the true spirit of Icaraizinho — with its consistent winds, warm and crystal-clear waters, untouched mangroves and the genuine hospitality of the local community. Whether on or off the water, it offers an immersive and authentic Brazilian kitesurfing escape.

Services

Icarai Watersports Centre offers a full range of watersports and guided experiences, designed for all levels and delivered in a relaxed, professional environment. Activities include kitesurfing, windsurfing, wingfoiling, stand-up paddleboarding, and Hawaiian canoeing (OC6 & OC4), allowing guests to explore the coastline in a variety of exciting ways.

One of the highlights is the fully supported downwind adventures, running from Icaraizinho to Patos or Barra das Moitas. These unforgettable journeys combine wave riding, river crossings and long flat-water sections, all backed by expert guidance and full safety support.

For a more tranquil experience, Hawaiian canoe tours along the Aracatiaçu River offer a unique way to discover the region’s natural beauty, weaving through mangroves and calm waterways.

The centre also provides equipment rental alongside full water and land logistics support, including safety boat assistance and return transfers by car when required, ensuring a seamless and worry-free experience.

A range of clinics, personalised coaching sessions and tailor-made expeditions are also available, allowing guests to progress at their own pace while making the most of the exceptional local conditions.

In some locations it is necessary, or just more practical, to teach from a boat. This is often with a radio helmet to make instructor-to-student communication that much easier. The advantage of boat teaching is the huge space to practice, the added safety that brings, and it makes it much easier for the instructor to follow the student whilst giving constant instruction and support.

This package is perfect for students who want to practice getting up on the board, master riding upwind, make their first transitions, as well as those first jumps or practice new tricks in a safe and relaxing environment.

Note:

These lessons are assuming you have already completed level 1 (flying the kite on the beach and safety drills).

Kitesurfing Lessons with a personal instructor gives you the opportunity to have a 1-on-1 interaction with your instructor to help you learn at a pace that is driven by you. The Learn To Kitesurf course aims to get you riding, while also teaching you how to read the conditions and utilise your equipment safely and correctly.

You will start with the basics; this includes setup of your equipment, safety features that you will utilise and how to fly a small 2metre trainer kite. When your instructor feels you are ready you can then head to the water. On day one you will only be using the kite and not go on the board just yet. Entering the water is when the fun starts! Here you will be taught how to properly fly an inflatable kitesurfing kite, how to control your kite and what to do if you crash it in the water. On day one you will be comfortable flying the kite and know what to do in any situation.

Note:

You don’t need to be super-fit to kitesurf and the kit is lightweight, so you don’t need lots of muscle strength either. But of course, a decent level of fitness will help you to progress faster. Your instructor will be there to support you, coach you, and more importantly, keep you safe through the learning process. We will schedule your course to start on your first full day, but you must remain available to the school to work around local wind and sea conditions, as well as instructor availability.

Private lessons are 1-1 sessions with an instructor, meaning fast progression. The lessons include all equipment and are designed to take you from total beginner to up and riding. We normally suggest at least 6 - 8 hours to get the up on the board doing short runs. Lessons are normally in 2 - 3-hour sessions, but dependent on local conditions.

Daily kitesurf unlimited rental, with choice of boards and kites, bar included. The range of equipment will vary from each different kitesurf school, so sometimes the exact kite size may not be available. Kitesurf rental packages are great if you want to experiment with different types of equipment before you decide to invest in your own, or if you just don't want toe hassle of taking your own equipment.

The quality of kitesurf rental equipment will vary from each different sport centre. Take a look at the sport centre details for more information on this. if you are not sure then you can always call us. We only work with the best kitesurf centres in each resort and do our best to visit every centre we offer.

Note:

You must be able to demonstrate safe setup and use of the equipment, and be able to ride upwind (most of the time). If the centre feels that you are not yet ready to kite independently they may swap out some of the rental value for instruction.

Damage Insurance is not included and should be paid locally

For Kitesurf rental of equipment, you may be required to produce a VDWS/IKO/RYA or equivalent licence to prove your ability to rent (For Egypt this is mandatory, and if unable to provide you will need to do a skills test and pay for a licence locally)

This includes how to lift the sail up from the water to your first rides in both directions. Private lessons are 1-1 with an instructor ensure fast progression. Note:

Private 1-1 Wingfoil instruction is the best and fastest way to learn to Foil, improve, or master a specific trick or move. Lessons are normally in 1-2 hour sessions, but you can discuss this with your personal instructor.
