Do you dream of racing over flat, turquoise water with consistent and reliable wind? At Alacati, on the Cesme Peninsula in Turkey, you will experience some of the best windsurfing conditions in the Aegean Sea. Alacati is a one hour transfer from Izmir airport which is just a three hour flight from the UK.
Alacati is a stunning destination that is known as the St. Tropez of Turkey. This beautiful and historic town has many coffee shops and open air terraces with bars and restaurants and has a lot to offer visitors. Furthermore, the shops and boutiques in nearby Cesme are well worth a visit with a great range of local goods and typical Turkish wares.
The main windsurf spot is in a huge protected bay with a 500 metre long and 400 metre wide shallow area of warm shimmering turquoise water. To the south, the bay gives way to the open sea.
The wind is constant and reliable. It blows sideshore from the left all summer, and the flat water creates ideal conditions for everyone from beginner to expert windsurfers. Those looking to learn to windsurf and practise their new skills will be treated to near perfect beginner conditions in the morning. Whilst the more advanced will find Alacati perfect for improving as the wind speed picks up in the afternoon.
There is a kite spot on the opposite side of the bay that has similar water and wind conditions. It can be reached by car or by boat from the local watersports centres.
From mid May until the end of September the infamous Meltemi wind blows from the north. The air current is softer in the morning and increases in strength steadily throughout the afternoon.
In spring and autumn, the prevailing Poiras wind comes from a southerly direction blowing sideshore from the right and nice small waves break in the bay. Beginners and intermediate windsurfers, in particular, will enjoy the excellent wind conditions in Alacati
There are many bars and restaurants along the beach with good value food and drink. Nearby Ilica (8km) and Cesme (15km) provide more nightlife and excellent restaurants close to their picturesque harbours.
The huge, warm and shallow lagoon makes Alacati is the perfect place for kids to get into windsurfing. Combined with the light morning winds it makes Alacati extremely safe and ideal for children to learn how to windsurf. With specially trained kids instructors and an excellent range of children’s equipment youngsters have a lot of fun and quickly improve.
