Overview Of Fazenda Barranco Alto

The Fazenda Barranco Alto is located 120 km northwest of the small city of Aquidauana, on the Rio Negro boundary, in the southern area of the Pantanal.

The Fazenda's land contains more than 100 lakes, over 400 different birds and all sorts of mammals, as well as untouched vegetation. For decades the Fazenda functioned as a cattle ranch, and still does, however, now it also welcomes guests.

It has just four rooms and therefore offers an exclusive experience with plenty of wildlife spotting opportunities. Dishes are mainly regional, with most food being grown on the farm, and can be adapted to individual needs. All the activities of the farm are based on sustainability principles.

The Fazenda does not have a fixed daily programme because all activities are customised to guests' wishes, however excursions include river trips in a boat with a quiet electrical engine, swimming, fishing and canoeing.

Birdwatching is one of the favourite activities, since birds are very abundant. Many of the birds can be seen in bigger flocks and are easy to approach. Hyacinth macaws are seen daily, as well as trogons, jacamars, toucans, raptors and many other species.

There is no pool but guests can relax in hammocks slung under the large mango tree on the terraced area in front of the guest bedrooms, enjoying a glass of tasty tropical fruit juice or a caipirinha.
