Cape Town

Cape Town is a city full of beauty, adventure, and history. One of the top attractions is Table Mountain, a flat-topped mountain that offers breathtaking views of the city, ocean, and surrounding landscapes. You can take a cable car to the top or hike up if you enjoy walking in nature. Another great viewpoint is Lion’s Head, a smaller peak next to Table Mountain, which is especially popular for sunrise and sunset hikes.

In the heart of the city, the V&A Waterfront is a lively area with many restaurants, shops, and entertainment options. You can take a boat ride, visit the Two Oceans Aquarium, or explore local markets. From the waterfront, ferries leave for Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. A guided tour here is a powerful experience and a chance to learn about South Africa’s past.

A short drive from the city takes you to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, two of the most scenic spots in the country. The coastal drive is stunning, with stops at places like Chapman’s Peak Drive, a winding road with dramatic ocean views. Along the way, you can visit Boulders Beach, home to a colony of adorable African penguins.

Cape Town also has incredible beaches. Camps Bay is one of the most famous, with white sand, blue waters, and plenty of restaurants nearby. Clifton Beach is a great spot for sunbathing and relaxing, while Muizenberg Beach is known for its colourful beach huts and is a popular place for surfing.

If you love adventure, you can try paragliding from Signal Hill for an unforgettable view of the city or go kayaking in the ocean to see dolphins and seals. There are also many hiking trails in Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, one of the most beautiful gardens in the world.

For culture and history, a visit to Bo-Kaap is a must. This neighbourhood is famous for its brightly coloured houses and rich Cape Malay heritage. You can also explore District Six Museum, which tells the story of people who were forced to leave their homes during apartheid.

Cape Town offers something for everyone, from nature and adventure to history and relaxation. Whether you want to explore mountains, beaches, or vineyards, this city is full of unforgettable experiences.

Days 4 - 6

5* Mont Rochelle Hotel and Mountain Vineyards

Bed & Breakfast

Set off to Mont Rochelle in South Africa’s scenic Winelands and enjoy two days exploring the fabulous vineyards, boutique restaurants and farmlands that make up this beautiful part of the world. Occupying 39 hectares of vineyards and hills, the hotel produces wine on-site, and you can tour the cellars or wander the paths between vineyard plots. You may never want to leave!

Stellenbosch and Franschhoek

Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are two of South Africa’s most renowned wine regions, each offering a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Stellenbosch, the country’s second-oldest town, is known for its Cape Dutch architecture, oak-lined streets, and prestigious university. It has a vibrant atmosphere with art galleries, fine dining, and world-class wineries. The town is surrounded by rolling vineyards and dramatic mountains, creating a picturesque setting that attracts both wine lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Franschhoek, meaning "French Corner," has a distinct European charm rooted in its Huguenot heritage. This small town is considered South Africa’s culinary capital, with award-winning restaurants and a strong focus on gourmet food paired with exceptional wines. The surrounding valley is breathtaking, with lush vineyards set against a backdrop of towering mountains. The Franschhoek Wine Tram is a popular attraction, offering a scenic and leisurely way to explore the region’s top wine estates.

Both Stellenbosch and Franschhoek offer a perfect mix of history, luxury, and natural splendour, making them must-visit destinations for travellers exploring the Cape Winelands.

Days 6 - 8

5* Botlierskop Private Game Reserve

Full Board with game drives

Today you will drive from Franschhoek to Botlierskop Private Game Reserve near Mossel Bay, a scenic journey of around three hours. This is a beautiful drive and a great way to break up the route towards Knysna.

On arrival, you will settle in and head out on an afternoon game drive. A two-night stay works best here, giving you time for a full day with morning and afternoon drives, plus a final activity before you leave.

The reserve offers a good mix of wildlife, including lion, elephant and rhino, set within rolling hills, open plains and river valleys. The experience is relaxed and comfortable, with good-quality lodge or tented accommodation.

This is not a remote safari, but it fits perfectly into a Garden Route journey and adds a completely different experience between the Winelands and the coast.

Botlierskop (Garden Route)

Botlierskop Private Game Reserve is located on South Africa’s Garden Route, between Mossel Bay and George. The reserve spans approximately 6,000 hectares of malaria-free wilderness, with a landscape that combines mountains, river valleys and open plains. The setting is particularly scenic, with views of the Outeniqua Mountains and, in places, the Indian Ocean beyond. Botlierskop is one of the best options on the Garden Route for clients wanting a safari element without travelling to a traditional safari destination. It offers a strong balance of wildlife, scenery and comfort, with more activities than most comparable reserves in the region. It works particularly well as a one or two-night stop within a broader itinerary, and stands out for its horseback safaris, accessible location and overall quality of experience.

It is well-suited to couples, families, and first-time safari travellers looking for a high-quality, accessible safari experience along the Garden Route. The overall feel is relaxed, scenic and slightly more polished than many Garden Route game reserves, combining strong wildlife encounters with good facilities and varied accommodation. Its main highlights are the wide range of activities, including game drives, horseback and walking safaris, its malaria-free setting, and its dramatic location between the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean.

  • Game Drives - Guided game drives take place in open safari vehicles across a 6,000-hectare reserve, home to over 26 species including lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, giraffe, cheetah and hippo. Drives typically last around three to three and a half hours and include snacks and drinks.
  • Horseback Safaris - One of the standout features of Botlierskop is its horseback safaris, allowing guests to explore the reserve and get close to wildlife in a unique and immersive way.
  • Walking Safaris and Bush Experiences - Guided walks provide a more detailed look at the flora, fauna and tracking elements of the reserve.
  • Day Safaris - Botlierskop also caters for non-residents, offering day visits with game drives, spa access and dining options, making it a flexible addition to a Garden Route itinerary.
  • Additional Experiences - These include spa treatments, birdwatching (with over 200 species recorded), and occasional specialist experiences such as veterinary safaris.

Days 8 - 10

4* Knysna Turbine Boutique Hotel

Bed & Breakfast

Continue to the lagoon side town of Knysna - the gem of the Garden Route, around a 2-hour drive. We recommend the Turbine Hotel here , set on a small island on the Knysna Lagoon. There are lots of trips in and around the area to fill 2 days or more.

From here, there is a short drive to George airport for your onward journey, or you can continue the scenic drive to one of the bigger safari parks near Port Elizabeth.

Knysa (Garden Route)

Knysna is a beautiful town along South Africa’s Garden Route, surrounded by forests, hills, and a wide lagoon. It is a peaceful place known for its stunning scenery, fresh seafood, and friendly atmosphere. One of the most famous spots is the Knysna Heads, two massive cliffs at the lagoon's entrance, offering breathtaking views. Many visitors take boat trips, go kayaking, or simply relax at the waterfront, where there are plenty of shops and restaurants. The town is also home to the Knysna Elephant Park, where you can see rescued elephants up close, and the Featherbed Nature Reserve, which has walking trails and amazing coastal views. For those who love adventure, the Knysna Forest is perfect for hiking, biking, and exploring waterfalls.

From Knysna, you can take a short drive to Plettenberg Bay, a popular beach town just 30 minutes away. Plettenberg Bay is known for its golden beaches, where visitors can swim, surf, or watch dolphins and whales in the ocean. It is also home to attractions like Robberg Nature Reserve, a stunning coastal hiking area with cliffs, caves, and beautiful sea views. Another great place to visit nearby is the Tsitsikamma National Park, about an hour’s drive from Knysna. This park is famous for its dramatic coastline, lush forests, and exciting activities like zip-lining, hiking, and crossing the famous Storms River Suspension Bridge.

Knysna is a wonderful place to explore, offering a mix of nature, adventure, and relaxation. Whether staying in town or taking a short drive to nearby attractions, there is always something exciting to see and do.
