Lion Sands Overview

Lion Sands is a place that enriches one’s soul. It is an extraordinary gift passed down over generations and even for those who have known its sweeping landscapes since birth, it remains a place of overwhelming beauty and discovery. This iconic destination is loacated at the heart of the game-rich Sabi Sand Reserve and the world-renowned Kruger National Park.

The Lodges

The choice of Lodge at Lion Sands is dependent on personal taste and budget. The lodges are all situated on the perennial Sabie River, and offer guests the pinnacle of African contemporary luxury. You choose the best fit, as each is as unique as the guest.

For those who enjoy utter exclusivity with never more than 20 other guests, and the privacy of a personal Villa with deck, lounge and pool, then we recommend Ivory Lodge.

Both Tinga Lodge and Narina Lodge afford exclusive accommodations, with private plunge pools and decks overlooking the Sabie River in the Kruger National Park. The styles of the lodges differ. Narina’s signature feature is its positioning within the trees, while Tinga is bolder in tone and décor.

River Lodge is the origin of the Lion Sands safari – the elemental safari. Here guests can expect a sophisticated interpretation of the traditional safari lodge, with an emphasis on clean lines, optimised natural light and contemporary décor.

In addition, The Lion Sands Treehouses are the ultimate bush bedrooms. Arrive at sunset to a scrumptious picnic dinner, and spend the hours of dusk fully appreciating the vastness of the bushveld as it transforms from day to night. Slumber directly beneath the Milky Way where you may well lose count of the shooting stars. The Treehouses at Lion Sands are for the hopeless romantic (ideal as a wedding or anniversary treat), the adventurer, the person who needs a complete disconnect and digital detox, or the wildlife enthusiast who prefers the bush au-natural.All of the Treehouses are securely constructed above the ground, where animals will remain at a safe and comfortable distance. A Field Guide will provide a full orientation when he drops guests off before sunset, and will remain on call via the radio left behind until it is time to leave the following morning after sunrise and a good cup of coffee!

The Experience

Naturally, Lion Sands is all about the safari. Guests have the opportunity to view spectacular wildlife while preserving the balance of the bushveld in the company of people with an insatiable enthusiasm both for the bush and for the people who come out to visit. Excitement rides high in discovering an intensely wild yet awe-inspiring adventure every day. The anticipation of rising before dawn to set off through the early morning mists in search of the day’s game is unforgettable and humbling at the same time.

The bush takes on a completely different perspective when you are on foot. Walks generally take place after breakfast and last approximately 1½ to 2 hours, depending on the fitness level of guests. In summer, due to the heat, walks may be incorporated into the morning game drive before heading back to the lodge for breakfast
