Windsurf Holidays To Sotavento
Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canaries although one of the least developed. You arrive at the airport in the North of the island followed by our private transfer down to Sotavento in the South, about 1.5 hours, or we will arrange for car hire collection as an alternative.
Sotavento has long been regarded as one of the most wind reliable year around windsurf holiday locations within a short flight of the UK. The resort offers the option to either stay in the tourist resort of 'Costa Calma', or a little further South at the Melia Gorriones Hotel, right by one of the best windsurf spots.
Sotavento is perfect for either a deciated windsurf holiday, or it can make for a super family holiday with many hotels offering good family facitlies. The canary islands are also viewed as a very 'safe' destination for those that are concerned by some of the unrest in some other European or Middle Eastern locations.

What our clients say
"Thanks for assisting us in booking our windsurf holiday last July. Sotavento beach in Fuerte was amazing and we plan to go back next year."
Fuerteventura offers a variety of conditioned depending on the time of year and location; from super flat shallow lagoons to full on wave sailing spots. We know this area extremely well so please call for a personal account and advice on suitability.
The Wind In Sotavento
The best wind in Sotavento is between April and October although it is possible to get some good winter conditions, just not as strong and reliable as the summer. During the high wind days speeds can reach as high as 40+ knots ! The wind here also tends to be very gusty as it is off-shore being funneled, and accelerated, through a hill range behind the resort.
In our opinion Sotavento is a balance between considering the great wind reliability and the off shore gusty conditions.
Fuerteventura does offer a wide range for the non - windsurfer, don't forget this is a major holiday destination for many holidaymakers. The key activities are surfing, diving, horseriding, trekking and cycling. At Sotavento there is a good quality hotel overlooking the spot, so this may be more suited to a non-windsurfing partner who is happy to relax around a pool and wander down to the spot at leisure.
Sotavento evenings are mostly hotel based, relaxing over dinner or in one of the hotel bars. A short shuttle bus ride or taxi ride away are the resorts of Costa Calma and Jandia, which offer a low key selection of bars and nightlife. Fuerte Action café and Restaurant Bar in Costa Calma is a popular meeting place from breakfast until late at night.
