Hidden escapes for your windsurf holiday

During the past years the team at Planet Windsurf Holidays has travelled to many of the world’s best destinations in the pursuit of the perfect windsurfing holiday. Along the way, we have come across a number of out of way the locations, luxury hideaways and rustic destinations that offer something truly special off the beaten track. Through our years of research and experience we have discovered Robin Cruseo style accommodation, amazing flat-water lagoons that few know about and areas of scenic beauty will blow you away.

Here are just five of these amazing hidden escapes for your next windsurfing holiday:

Catalan Boutique, Golf de Roses, Spain

Catalan Boutique is an authentic Catalan farm whose original buildings date back to 1665. It was lovingly restored by its owners with respect to the traditional Catalan style and is the perfect place from which to enjoy the authentic culture and delicious food and wine of the region. The bay of Roses has long been well-known amongst windsurfers and a number of historical and cultural sites are also easily reached from the hotel. The Golf de Roses is also offering a first of its kind wind foiling clinic this October for anyone interested in getting into this exciting sport!

Ocean Vagabond, Dakhla, Morocco

While Dakhla’s vast flat water lagoon is well-known amongst kitesurfers, the windsurfing community is well catered for at the lesser known Ocean Vagabond. Offering amazing bungalows located right on the water’s edge and dedicated facilities for windsurfer’s right on site, this is the perfect spot for your next windsurfing holiday! The owner has taken a leading role in terms of ecological compatibility and has adapted the resort perfectly with the surrounding nature. The bungalows have been built with recycled wood from an old stable and each unit has a solar panel on the roof as well as a warm water tank. Freshwater comes from a deep well, located 5km away and the complex has its own wastewater facility with processed water used for irrigation.

Gostoso Luxury Beach resort, Gostoso, Brazil

The Gostoso Luxury Boutique Hotel is located directly on the beachfront in Brazil and offers an unsurpassed level of personal service and amazing cuisine prepared by the manager, who is also a professional Italian chef! This is a very special property tucked away in a remote windy corner of the planet and the entire hotel was totally renovated recently with a new reception, pool, beachfront grill restaurant and some extra rooms. A windsurf holiday to Gostoso offers a rare combination of incredibly reliable wind, beautiful accommodation, and amazing value for money. The very best wind season for Gostoso is between September and March with 90% super reliable wind ranging from 17 to 30 knots.

20 Degrees South, Anse Le Raie, Mauritius

Anse La Raie in Northern Mauritius provides a great alternative to the busy more well-known spot of Le Morne in the south of the island. At Anse La Raie you can enjoy the amazing wind conditions and atmosphere of Mauritius, but with far less windsurfers on the water. 20 Degrees South underwent a complete renovation in 2017 and is now better than ever. We love this hotel for its warm, cozy atmosphere, great quiet location and stunning attention to detail. Its also located a short walk to the bustling Grand Baie area and its range of amenities, restaurants, shopping and nightlife.

The Lighthouse Wave Camp, Pacasmayo, Peru

Pacasmayo in Northern Peru is home to the longest windsurfing wave in the world and in our opinion is one of the best windsurfing spots on the planet! In terms of reliability and perfect set up, it really does not get much better. You can probably do more bottom turns on a week’s holiday to Pacasmayo than you have done in your life. The Lighthouse Wave Camp offers the perfect location for windsurfers and kitesurfers to access the waves at Pacasmayo and offers simple but well-run accommodation and amazing views over the bay.
