The 5 most exotic windsurf destinations in the world!

Looking for that faraway, undiscovered, exotic windsurf holiday destination? Here at Planet Windsurf Holidays, we have found some destinations that offer the perfect level of comfort with an exotic, uncrowded atmosphere.

Here are our top five exotic windsurf destinations for 2018:

Anse La Raie, Mauritius

If you are looking for the amazing wind and perfect conditions of Mauritius without the crowds then look no further than Anse La Raie. Here in the northern part of Mauritius, there is an outer reef belt that creates a vast lagoon that reaches out almost 2.5km from the shoreline.

The lagoon is not very shallow but it is perfectly protected from the waves, which creates a huge flat-water playground for windsurfers. The wind is at this spot is usually side shore making it a very safe location for beginners. For the more advanced there are some small waves on the outer reef.

One of our favourite hotels on the island is 20 Degrees South. This incredible hotel underwent a complete renovation in 2017 and is now better than ever. The hotel offers unique Creole charm and perfect luxury. The hotel has 35 bedrooms decorated in antiques and is just steps away from the water’s edge.

Bonaire, Dutch Antilles

Bonaire is a stunning destination for a windsurfing holiday. Look forward to perfect windsurf conditions for any level at the lagoon at Lac Bay. The lagoon is perfectly protected from the ocean by a big coral reef on one side and large mangrove forest on the other.

The wind here is good all year round but the best wind period is between May and July. These steady onshore trade winds create perfect conditions for all kinds of windsurfers from freestylers to beginners. The flat water and bump and jump conditions also provide a great training ground for getting into the sport.

An absolute heaven for windsurfers staying on Bonaire is the Sorobon Beach Resort. This resort is situated in the Lac Bay area of Bonaire and offers stunning beach-style cabins.  The resort has a private beach with shaded cabanas and lounge chairs and the shallow bay in front of the hotel is protected by a coral reef and is ideal for swimmers, snorkelers and windsurfers.

Icaraizinho, Brazil

In northern Brazil is where you will find the tranquil and charming town of Icaraizinho. This area offers some amazing windsurfing conditions for all levels. Similar to Jericoacoara, the bay here is curved however here there is a wider range of conditions.

The wind is slightly less strong here during the windy season which starts in July/August and lasts through to December. The spots here include a sheltered flat-water area inside the bay which is ideal for beginners and freestylers and further out the main windsurfing area has gentle waves ideal for improvers and intermediates.

The incredible Villa Mango is the perfect place to stay while exploring Icaraizinho. The villa has a rustic feel yet provides a high standard of service. The villa is situated on a prime beachfront location. There is a selection of very spacious bungalows that are scattered around the colourful gardens that look out over the stunning beach.

Limnos, Greece

Limnos is a small island in Greece that boats some incredible windsurfing conditions away from the crowds. Keros Bay is a unique spot in that it offers windsurfers of all levels something to enjoy.

From the same beach you can enjoy super flat water, small chop and gentle waves. All these spots are within walking distance of the sports centre which makes it a perfect place to learn to windsurf.

Just a few minutes away from Keros Bay is the newly built Keros Blue Hotel. This hotel built with stone and local woods blends into the surrounding environment and offers the best views of the ocean. The hotel offers an amazing restaurant and cocktail bar as well as a yoga platform and bike and surf equipment rental.

The Algarve, Portugal

The exotic and wild area of the Algarve offers beautiful flat water, consistent wind and all the sunshine you need for a perfect windsurf holiday. The wind in summer is from the northwest, blowing in from the sea, especially in late afternoon, creating perfect conditions for windsurfing. Between June and September when the Nortrada blows you can expect consistent wind every day.

At Meia Praie you can find great conditions for a slalom and freeriding. Here the Nortada starts working later in the day and doesn’t get as strong making it perfect for beginners and intermediates. The spot at Marthinal perfectly suits the windsurfer looking for speed and great freeriding conditions and just a few minutes away is the wave spot of Tonel that offers the perfect place to do some jumps and surfing.

Martinhal Beach Resort and Hotel located in Sagres is one of the best family beach resorts in Europe. This family-focused hotel is a perfect hideaway from busy life with a beach and a national park surrounding it. The architecture of the hotel combines a natural simplicity with contemporary style. The 37 rooms, including two duplex beach suites all have private balconies or terraces that offer impressive ocean views.
