5 things to consider when planning your next windsurf holiday!

Here are 5 things to consider when planning your next windsurf holiday:

1. Pick your windy destination

When picking a windsurfing holiday destination, the one thing that is most important is the wind conditions. All the best windsurf destinations have incredible wind but the tricky part is picking a spot with the perfect kind of wind for you. Perhaps you are just starting out and need a destination where the wind is constant but not too strong and with a nice calm lagoon, then a destination like Limnos in Greece would be perfect.

Or perhaps you are a more advanced windsurfer looking for your next thrill, then what you need is constant strong winds, perfect flat-water to sail across and plenty of fun waves to get some aerial manoeuvres in. Dakhla has some of the best conditions for advanced windsurfers with its great wind and amazing wave spots.

2. What is your budget?

Travelling, in general, can be a very expensive undertaking, so the best way to plan a windsurf holiday is to know your budget.

If you are looking for a more laid-back style windsurf holiday then a destination such as Hotel FeelViana in West Portugal would suit you best, while others may prefer a more luxurious windsurf holiday to a destination that offers incredible resorts such as 20 Degrees South in North Mauritius.

3. Who else is going along?

If you are a solo traveller just looking for your next great adventure it is quite easy to plan a holiday especially with the wide range of guided trips out there, however, for those travelling with friends and family, there are a few things that will need to be considered. If you are travelling as a family with young kids it is important to pick a place where there are plenty of activities for those that do not windsurf.

4. When is the best time to travel?

The time of year in which you decide to travel is a very important factor. The ultimate goal is to find the season when the wind is most consistent and the temperature is warm. This is easy enough to determine, however a great factor to consider is whether that season coincides with the usual busy season.

The incredible island of Mauritius offers some of its best windsurfing conditions in the middle of the year during the off-season. This means that there is plenty of wind, uncrowded waters and amazing special deals. The St Regis Resort offers a great early-bird discount and up to 50% off during the off-season.

5. How far do you want to travel?

If you only have a short period available for your windsurf holiday and you want to make the most of it, picking a destination that is just one short and direct flight away, such as Fuerteventura, is your best option. This way your precious time won’t be spent on an aeroplane.

If you have plenty of time, then why not pick a destination that is way off the beaten track and make a true adventure out of your windsurf holiday. Take a flight or two and a bus and get right to the heart of an exotic windsurf destination such as Gostoso in Brazil.
