The best time to visit Mauritius for a windsurfing holiday is May through to December. However, the most reliable months are August through to October, but other months are very consistent too.

The southwest have the best conditions. If you want an exquisite luxury hotel with access to the premier kitesurf and windsurf location with flat water and waves then the St Regis in Le Morne is outstanding. Alternative to the St Regis is either LUX Le Morne or Dinarobin which are both a 15-20 minute walk to the windsurf centre. If you don't mind a short drive it opens up a large amount of other properties, including apartments, in the surrounding area. Two properties that are worth a special mention are the Chamarel Retreat (a stunning eco lodge with incredible views over Le Morne) and the Outrigger Hotel in Bel Ombre (a luxury hotel at affordable prices which is only 15 minutes drive away).

Northern Mauritius Windsurf Holidays

Planet Windsurf introduced Northern Mauritius in 2016 following an increased demand for an alternative to the most famous spot of Le Morne in the South of the island. Although we regard Le Morne as one of the best windsurfing locations in the world it can get quite busy, especially in high season. So if you want to enjoy the amazing wind conditions and atmosphere of Mauritius, but with far fewer windsurfers on the water, Anse Le Raie in Northern Mauritius is worth a look.  Another strong selling point for this part of Mauritius is the big range of amenities, shopping and nightlife that can be found a short drive away in Grand Baie.

As always, here at Planet Windsurf, we are very particular about the accommodation that we offer, and we will only recommend properties that we have personally checked and know to be good. We also make a conscious effort to avoid the ‘package holiday’ type of hotels, as although they can be cheap, they come at a price! Bel Ombre Windsurf Holidays

Bel Ombre is a beautiful beach resort located in the south-west of Mauritius that still has the atmosphere of authentic Mauritius. The windsurf spot here is perfectly located at the end of Bel Ombre, right in front of the Beach Club. This spot suits all windsurfing levels. The spacious lagoon has flatwater, as well as waves further out at the reef. This is the perfect spot for all windsurfers as it offers a range of good quality but affordable hotels and the Bel Ombre Windsurf Centre. The close proximity to the main windsurf beach and resort amenities suit holidaymakers travelling with non-kiting partners or families.
