South America is a vast continent bristling with energy, life and colour. From the colossal rainforests and jungles of the north to the desert plains of the far south, contrast is everywhere. But all around its edge lies massive expanses of coastline facing both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. And when the wind blows, it\u2019s little surprise that conditions can be perfect for windsurfing.<\/p>\n

Here are four of our favourite windsurfing spots in South America:<\/h4>\n

Gostoso<\/h5>\n

A rising star on the Brazilian windsurfing scene, Gostoso<\/a> is located in the region of the Rio Grande do Norte. Arriving at Natal International Airport the transfer to the beach is just over an hour so it\u2019s one of the easier to access windsurfing spots in South America. What sets Gostoso apart is the unique combination of reliable wind, affordable boutique accommodation and friendly vibes around the town. It\u2019s a very welcoming place and the locals have embraced the windsurfing scene. It\u2019s almost as much fun out of the water as on it – almost. But Gostoso\u2019s secret is getting out so if you want to see it at its best then book now before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n

Jericoacoara<\/h5>\n

If it\u2019s reliable wind you are looking for then Jericoacoara<\/a> is a great option in the windier second half of the year with strong winds that blow like crazy. Once a small fishing village, it has been transformed into a windsurfing hotspot, with riders coming from around the world to see what all the fuss is about. The town is busy and bustling, with plenty of affordable accommodation. More high-end options are opening all the time if you\u2019re looking for a luxurious break.  ‘The Point’ is the main windsurfing area, and the most popular. The glassy flat waters make it a freestylers heaven, and a great place for intermediates to progress, while some spots further up the cost are ideal for more advanced windsurfers. Due to the very strong wind and restricted windsurf zone we suggest Jericoarcoara for good intermediate to advanced sailors. Owing to the superb conditions, the high season can get a little busy but that has its benefits in terms of nightlife and fun in the evenings.<\/p>\n

Icaraizinho<\/h5>\n

Another of northern Brazil<\/a>\u2019s emerging destinations, the peaceful spot of Icaraizinho<\/a> has excellent windsurfing conditions for all levels. The village is growing, adding more facilities and infrastructure to the great conditions. The windsurfing here is simply amazing with flat water blasting and small waves all within easy reach. It\u2019s the smallest of the three Brazilian spots so a week should do for most riders. However, there is a good choice of other destinations nearby for a combination break. <\/p>\n

Pacasmayo<\/h5>\n

Moving from Brazil to the other side of the continent in Peru<\/a>, you\u2019ll need to travel north from the capital Lima to the more deserted parts of Northern Peru. The region is little more than endless miles of desert, with remote towns and barren landscapes. But out of the wilderness has emerged a new reason to visit this remote corner of the world. Pacasmayo<\/a> has been drawing more and more windsurfers over the last decade and it\u2019s easy to see why. It\u2019s a great wave spot, with one of the longest breaks in the world and it\u2019s all backdropped by eerily beautiful desert scenery and vast sand dunes.
