ALACATI WINDSURF HOLIDAY OVERVIEW
Placed on the Cesme Peninsula, contrary to the Hellenic island Chios, Alacati is the perfect surf point in the Turkish Aegean Sea. Who does not dream of rushing over flat, turquoise water with incessant wind? With Izmir just a 3 hour flight away, and the transferral to Alacati only 60 minutes, this perfect localisation is staggeringly approachable.
Alacati is called the "St. Tropez of Turkey" and it´s historic town with many coffee shops and terrasses is really attracting. In nearby Cesme, several shops and boutiques tempt you to shop to your hearts content!
Just in case the current of air break down and you are concerned about culture as well as sports, a few renowned places can be easily reached from here: Ephesus, Pamukkale, Troy, Assos and a lot more.
WINDSURFING SPOTS IN ALACATI
The spot is situated in a huge protected bay, with a 500 metres long and 400 metres wide shallow area of shimmering turquoise water. In the south, the bay gives way to the open sea. The constant wind, which blows sideshore from the left in summer, and the absolutely flat water, create perfect conditions for experienced windsurfers, as well as an excellent learning and practicing environment.
The kite spot is on the opposite side of the bay. It offers similar water and wind conditions and can be reached either by car or by the centre-owned shuttle boat.
THE WIND CONDITIONS IN ALACATI
From mid May till the end of September the well known “Meltemi” blows from the north. Commonly the air current is soften in the morning time and increments during the afternoon. In spring and autumn, the dominating wind comes from a southerly direction. The “Poiras” blows sideshore from the right. At this point, nice small waves break in the bay. Even on days with potent wind, beginners and intermediates can enjoy moderate wind conditions from the sunup to the sundown.
THE NIGHT LIFE
There are many bars and restaurants along the beach where food and drink is good value. Nearby Ilica (8km) and Cesme (15km) offer some more nightlife as well as some really decent restaurants close to their picturesque harbours.
CHILDREN
Alacati is also a perfect place for children to learn windsurfing.
Due to the huge shallow area, children can practice without any danger. In the morning the winds are usually light and therefore great, even for the smallest child. The combination of specially trained instructors, shallow warm water, light winds and special children's equipment helps youngsters improve very quickly.
