Rhodes (ialyssos) Windsurfing Holidays

For a windsurfing holiday with blue skies and blue waters go to Rhodes, Greece. Add the meltemi wind and you have a winner. Rhodes is well created as a holiday destination and is popular with many people. Windsurfers are no exception. This makes Rhodes a good destination for an all round holiday. Ialyssos is next door to Ixia and just 10 minutes from the airport. You could be on the water an hour after getting off the plane! Lying on a pebble and sandy beach Ialyssos has some large hotels that dominate the seafront but the original town still has some of its Greek character, and it has a very warm and friendly feel to the area. This is a perfect family holiday resort!

The water starts flat in the mornings but by midday the wind picks up and the waves start to swell, creating ideal text book bump and jump weather, by early afternoon the wind is really blasting...

The Pro Center and High Tech centres are located in the big Palmtree Garden of the hotel Blue Horizon, on the shingle beach of Trianda.

The Windmill Centre is located about 400 metres from the Pro Centre Blue Horizon. This Centre provides perfect learning conditions for beginners, as it lies sheltered from the strong winds and the waves in a small bay.

Rhodes benefits from the Meltemi wind that is created by the difference in temperatures between the land and sea. it's at its strongest in mid Summer when the weather is at its hottest. In early and late season there is also a high chance of planing weather. Normally the wind will build during the day, from Force 2/3 in the morning to Force 4 - 6 by mid/ late afternoon at its peak.

As well as having some of the best beaches in the Aegean, Rhodes is very mountainous, which is great if you love exploring and mount biking. Rhodes Town has wonderfull shopping, restaurants and pubs, people from all over the world pay the island a visit during the summer, so it has a truly international feel. Take an excursion in Rhodes to get away from the tourist areas and you'll see a completely different side of Rhodes. Inland are picturesque hills and valleys and further south, deserted beaches. Other activities include mount biking, scuba diving and horse riding. Rhodes has a long history and this is reflected in the castles and buildings that still remain and legends associated with many places. 

Nightlife can be as much or as little as you want. Lalyssos is a busy area and there are lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. There are wonderful tavernas serving Greek meze (little plates of everything imaginable), ouzo and the best fresh fish you'll find anywhere and we highly recommend that you try the local wines. Rhodes Town is just 5 kilometres away and has a selection of quaint quayside restaurants. There are also several nightclubs and late bars.
