El Gouna, in Egypt, is a man-made resort within a short transfer of Hurghada Airport on the Red Sea Coast. The town itself was created with tourists in mind and offers a wide range of activities, restaurants and pubs set in a relaxed and easygoing atmosphere. Combined with a range of very good quality hotels, El Gouna is an excellent choice for those travelling with families or non-sporting partners.
El Gouna Kitesurf Spots
MOVENPICK HOTEL (EXCLUSIVE TO PLANET CLIENTS) This astounding 5 star hotel offers a very comfortable base from which to kite / windsurf right off the beach. The spot has a large area of shallow flat water directly off the beach before reaching a channel of deeper choppy water about 150 m out. The site stretches both upwind and downwind of the centre so you're never short of space and the sea bottom in the shallow areas is predominantly sandy with small patches of dead coral, meaning that footwear is optional. Markers set out the area further downwind set aside for swimmers. Mmmm nice!
MANGROOVY BEACH: Host to Red Sea Zone. This spot offers similar conditions to the Mövenpick except that it's not as exclusive and can get quite crowded. There is waist high water for approx. 100 m out from the centre (a few hours each side of high tide) with flat water. Past this there is a drop off where the water is a little more lively and then out and upwind there is a very cool sand bar to play around.
El Gouna wind conditions
The wind in El Gouna is side to side-on shore at both spots. As with all Red Sea spots there is high wind year around although the most reliable conditions are in the summer months from April to November.
Activities in El Gouna
An excellent holiday resort where non divers can also enjoy a wide number of activities in a friendly secure environment, non diving activities include kitesurfing, golf, wakeboarding, volleyball, water skiing, snorkeling, horse riding and go kart racing.
THE NIGHTLIFE IN EL GOUNA
In the evening there is an excellent choice of restaurants to choose from both around the Marine and 'Down Town' area. There are also a few good bars and a large club that kicks off a couple of times a week….but generally speaking the nightlife is quite ‘low key’.
