Many people think the windy bay is all there is to Pissouri, but 3km up the road is the village of Pissouri. The traditional Cypriot village has and a fantastic nightlife, especially on Wednesday, when there are balancing acts and dancers in the square, adding to the amazing atmosphere in the town square. Pissouri is a great all round kitesurfing holiday destination, as it offers lovely accommodation, strong winds, and a family friendly atmosphere. Generally the water is choppy, though the bay is more protected from wind driven swell, as the wind is lighter. But for advanced kiters, they only need to go out past the wind line for full force wind, and awesome jumping conditions. The properties in Cyprus are built on the hillsides as its cooler in the summer, but also because they allow breathtaking views over the coast. Which is just how many of the hotels in Pissouri are built. The people of Cyprus are known for being warm and welcoming. Though their native tongue is Greek, English is widely spoken all over the island. In a world where violence is ever increasing, the crime rate on the island is exceptionally low.
Windsurfing season runs from April to early November, with the best months from June to August.
The windiest months are usually April, August and September when there's more than a 40 per cent chance of getting winds of Force 4 or more. But it's more complicated than that - if you look on the weekly forecast, you will see that the wind tends to increase in the afternoon. That is because thermals kick in around the Bay in the afternoons and usually blow at 3 pm to around 5.30 pm.
In April you might need a shortie wet-suit; by June it's warm enough just to sail in a rash vest and shorts. You will need an anti-UV rash vest and a factor 50 suntan lotion.
