Boa Vista Windsurfing Holidays

Boa Vista, which is Portuguese for 'Good View' is home to some of the most stunningly beautiful beaches on the Cape Verde archipelago, covering a staggering 55km. Most of the accommodations are generously spread out of the West Coast beach spreading out from the town of Sal Rai over a 10km stretch. 

Nightlife here is very low key and quiet with just a scattering of local restaurants and beach bars playing live music; a perfect place to chill out after a hard day on the water!   

The Island of Boa Vista has amazing variety of water conditions from buttery flat spot (perfect for beginner and improvers) to amazing clean waves in other areas a perfect introduction to wave riding. Planet have exclusively partnered with 2 excellent Windsurf  centres in Boa Vista offering instruction and rental services depending on your level and chosen accommodation. 

There are 2 main windsurf spots on Boa Vista, both with cross off shore wind conditions making the water smooth and flat no matter how strong the wind gets.

Flat Water Spot – close to the town of Sal Rei there is our main Planet Windurf Centre in Boa Vista with a good range of the newest Fanatic boards and North Sails. This spot is protected by a small island which blocks the waves that are found everywhere else on the island and ensures no shore break. The water in this area between the centre and the Island (around 1 km) is also quite shallow , between 1 – 2 meters depending on the tide, so it is really perfect for beginners and improvers.

Karamboa Wave Spot – there are many wave spots around the island but the main area is based at the Karamboa Hotel where Planet have there 2^nd exclusive windsurf centre. The waves here can be between 1- 4m and just keep rolling in set after set during the winter; this is an amazing wave spot with the convenience of a good one site 4* hotel.

Other Spots – there are at least 4 other amazing windsurf spots around the islands between 1 to 2 hours drive from the hotels. Planet can provide the use of a local expert spot guide with 4x4 pick-up to take you and your gear to the best location each day depending on your level (including a local knowledge secret spot!). Boa Vista windy season is caused when the northern trade winds drop to the southern hemisphere, making Boa Vista a very windy place between Novemeber and April. The Cape Verde Islands have the wind which leaves the Canary islands like Fuerteventura for the winter, which is why their seasons are opposite.

Despite the Island being deep in the Atlantic ocean the water is actually quite warm so board shorts and rash vest (to keep the 30c sun off) is all that's needed. Perfect !

The nightlife in Boa Vista revolves mainly around listening to live music, dining out, and relaxing in bars. The night scene is pretty relaxed as the island is not very developed. Dining out in the evening, you can expect to pay between £13 - £20 for a three course meal with wine. Many restaurants serve fantastic fresh seafood, along with other local specialities.
